RPF tightens noose on chain pullers, 150 cases booked in Ferozepur Rail Division

Ferozepur, August 5, 2026: The Railway Protection Force has intensified its crackdown on the misuse of alarm chains in trains, registering 150 cases under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989, during June in Ferozepur Division. As many as 80 persons were arrested and Rs 9,400 was recovered as fines in these cases.
Indian Railways, considered the lifeline of the country, provides safe and timely transportation to millions of passengers every day. Alarm chains installed in coaches are meant to be used only during genuine emergencies. However, despite repeated awareness campaigns, some passengers pull the alarm chain without any valid reason, causing disruption to train operations and inconvenience to thousands of travellers.
Ferozepur Rail Division regularly conducts awareness campaigns at railway stations, aboard trains and through public announcement systems to educate passengers about the proper use of alarm chains and the consequences of their misuse.
Unnecessary chain pulling affects train punctuality, disrupts smooth rail operations and causes financial losses to the Railways. Under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989, pulling an alarm chain without reasonable and sufficient cause is a punishable offence, attracting a fine, imprisonment or both.
Ferozepur Rail Division has appealed to passengers to use the alarm chain only in genuine emergency situations. It said that unnecessary chain pulling not only violates railway law but also affects the journey of thousands of passengers. The division reiterated its commitment to ensuring passenger safety, security and smooth train operations.
