Chandigarh, August 5, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring the holistic development of the state’s Kandi and border regions, with a focus on improving infrastructure, promoting tourism and boosting economic activity.
Chairing a meeting of the Border and Kandi Area Development Board, the Chief Minister directed officials to make concerted efforts to tap the tourism potential of the Kandi region and accelerate the overall development of these areas.
Mann said the Kandi region possesses immense potential to emerge as a major tourism destination due to its natural beauty and abundant resources.
“The Kandi area has the potential to become an ideal tourist destination and attract visitors from across the globe. The state government is making all-out efforts to develop the region further and harness its vast tourism potential,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the Kandi region had lagged behind in development due to the neglect of successive governments. However, the present government was working to unlock its untapped potential and attract tourists by improving infrastructure and promoting the region’s natural attractions.
He said the government was placing special emphasis on expanding economic activity in the region to improve the lives of local residents.
“After the upgradation of infrastructure, the Kandi region will emerge as a major tourist hub of the country. No stone is being left unturned to develop the region and modernise its infrastructure,” Mann said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to accelerate development in Punjab’s border districts. He said the people living in these areas had played an important role in safeguarding the country’s unity and sovereignty and deserved focused development and welfare initiatives.
Mann said the state government was fully committed to improving infrastructure and creating new economic opportunities in the border regions, which had not received adequate development during previous governments.
“Our government remains committed to the welfare and progress of people living in the border areas, who have always stood by the country and contributed to its unity and security,” he said.
Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
