In a remarkable career milestone, Baldeo Purushartha, a distinguished 2002-batch IAS officer from the Punjab cadre, has been appointed Senior Adviser to the Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, Philippines. This significant international assignment not only marks a pivotal moment in Purushartha's career but also underscores India's growing influence in global economic and development circles.
This new role has been approved by the Central Government, marking an important international assignment for Purushartha, who has been serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs.
Purushartha’s appointment to the ADB is a testament to his extensive experience and expertise in economic policy and administration. His tenure at this multilateral development institution is set for three years or until further orders, whichever comes first.
This move necessitates the curtailment of his current position as Joint Secretary under the Central Staffing Scheme, a role he has adeptly managed within the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
Educated with a Post Graduate degree from the University of Delhi, Purushartha began his illustrious career in the Indian Administrative Service in 2002. His journey through various significant roles has equipped him with a vast array of skills and insights.
Prior to his current posting, he served as Secretary, Lokpal, Punjab and Divisional Commissioner in Jalandhar. His career has also seen him tackle diverse responsibilities such as Private Secretary to the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Director of Industries and Commerce Department in Punjab, and Commissioner of Municipal Corporation in Chandigarh, among others.
The new assignment at ADB places Purushartha in a pivotal role at a crucial time for the institution.
