New Delhi, August 16, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the alleged assassination attempt against her husband and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
In her letter, Harsimrat Badal highlighted three key concerns and argued that the circumstances surrounding the incident warrant an investigation by the central agency.
She pointed out that both attacks took place at Sikh religious shrines, while a Sikh devotee was engaged in religious service. She also questioned the Punjab Police and the Punjab Government over what she described as a “striking pattern” between the two incidents.
According to Harsimrat Badal, the repeated attacks raise concerns that they may be part of an attempt to damage Punjab’s image internationally and defame the Sikh community.
Calling the matter serious, she urged the Union Home Minister to order a thorough NIA investigation into the incidents, their circumstances and the possible motives behind them.
While interacting with media today, Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal showed the weapon that was used to attack SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal in Nanded. She showed Badal's wounds that he sustained during the attack. She says, "The attacker struck at his chest with a 1.5-foot-long sharp weapon, but as Sukhbir Singh Badal raised his hand to defend himself, the blade pierced right through it... The accused involved in the previous attack is roaming free... DGP Yadav and Bhullar hushed up the case... I have written to the Home Minister demanding an NIA probe because a massive conspiracy lies behind this; strict action must be taken against anyone involved—whether they are police officers or politicians."
