Amritsar (Punjab), August 28, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the handling of issues concerning government employees, saying the Chief Minister should learn from the way former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal dealt with employees and other sections of society.
Sukhbir Badal visited Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar to pay obeisance. Speaking to the media, he said he had come to express gratitude to the Guru for protecting him from what he described as an attack by “anti-Guru” elements.
Turning to the issue of government employees, the SAD president alleged that instead of addressing their concerns, the Mann government was attempting to suppress them through threats and the use of police pressure.
“Instead of mistreating employees, the Chief Minister should learn from Badal Sahib,” Sukhbir said, referring to his late father, Parkash Singh Badal.
He claimed that the facilities and Pay Commission-related benefits received by Punjab government employees were largely introduced during Parkash Singh Badal-led governments.
Sukhbir further alleged that the Punjab Government was withholding Dearness Allowance (DA) despite directions of the High Court, describing this as contempt of court.
He also accused the government of denying employees their legitimate dues while spending billions of rupees on advertisements, rallies and election campaigning.
Sukhbir said the people of Punjab would not tolerate what he termed the government's “high-handedness” and would respond to it in the coming election
