Uttar Pradesh, August 30, 2026: Senior IAS officer Divya Mittal of the Uttar Pradesh cadre has voluntarily resigned from government service after completing 13 years in the administration. Divya Mittal, who has served as District Magistrate (DM) in Deoria, Mirzapur and Sant Kabir Nagar, shared an emotional letter on social media explaining the reasons behind her decision.
After studying at prestigious institutions including IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore, Divya Mittal worked as an associate with renowned financial firm JPMorgan in London. However, despite having a successful career abroad, she said she felt a sense of incompleteness. She wrote that she returned to India to repay her debt to the land and contribute to nation-building. She subsequently cleared the UPSC examination and joined the IAS.
In her emotional note, Mittal recalled the lessons she learned during her administrative career. She wrote that Deoria taught her to stand by the truth, while Mirzapur showed her that “impossible” is not a fact but merely an opinion.
She also emphasized the human side of administration, writing that behind every government file there is a person, and protecting that person’s dignity is the true meaning of justice.
Recalling an elderly woman from Lahouriya Dah hill, Mittal said the blessings she received after water reached the village would remain with her for the rest of her life.
