Abbotsford, BC / Chandiagrh, September 7, 2026: A moving vehicle came under fire in Abbotsford late Saturday night, in what police believe was a targeted shooting, while an SUV was found fully engulfed in flames shortly afterwards at another location. No one was injured in the shooting, but the circumstances have triggered considerable speculation about who was inside the targeted vehicle.
According to the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD), shortly after 11 p.m. on September 5, a vehicle travelling in the 2500 block of McCallum Road was fired upon by occupants of another vehicle. Preliminary information indicates that individuals travelling in a dark-coloured SUV fired multiple shots at the victim vehicle. Police officers responded and confirmed that a shooting had taken place. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The identity of the occupants of the targeted vehicle has not been disclosed by police. Amid the absence of official information, speculation is rife that a prominent Punjabi singer may have been among those inside the vehicle and could have been the intended target. However, this claim remains unverified, and neither the Abbotsford Police nor any other official source has identified the occupants or confirmed the singer angle as of 12:15 p.m. IST on September 7.
Adding another twist to the incident, shortly after the shooting, AbbyPD officers responded to a report of a vehicle fire in the 2400 block of Sunnyside Place, approximately five kilometres from the shooting location. On arrival, officers found an SUV fully engulfed in flames. Police are investigating whether the burning vehicle was connected to the shooting.
The Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation and is working to determine the motive for the shooting and establish whether the two incidents are linked. Police have said that early indications suggest the shooting was targeted.
There are also reports that around 12 shots were fired at the vehicle. However, this detail has not been confirmed by AbbyPD in its official release and is therefore being treated as unverified.
Police are appealing to anyone who was in the 2500 block of McCallum Road between 10:45 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., or in the 2400 block of Sunnyside Place between 11 p.m. and midnight on September 5, and who may have witnessed suspicious activity or captured dashcam footage, to come forward.
The investigation is being conducted under Abbotsford Police File No. 2026-38035. Anyone with information can contact AbbyPD at 604-859-5225.
At this stage, the biggest unanswered questions remain: Who was inside the targeted vehicle, and who was the intended target?
