Ferozepur’s daughter Rupkamal Chawla Kamboj puts border education issues on Panjab University Senate agenda
Ferozepur, September 13, 2026: Rupkamal Chawla Kamboj, wife of Gurbejh Singh Tibbi and a daughter of Ferozepur, has emerged as a prominent candidate in the Panjab University, Chandigarh Senate elections scheduled for September 20. Contesting from the Graduate Constituency, she is campaigning on a distinct set of issues directly linked to the educational and developmental needs of Ferozepur and the border region.
Appealing to voters to give her their first-preference vote at Serial No. 41, Kamboj has prepared a special manifesto focusing on higher education facilities and the concerns of students and teachers in the border belt.
She said that if elected, she would make dedicated efforts to secure special facilities and concessions for students and teachers belonging to border areas. Her key demands include establishing a Panjab University Regional Centre in Ferozepur, setting up a Regional Administrative Office/Centre for the Malwa region, extending the definition of the border area for student benefits up to 40 kilometres, expanding Master’s degree courses in government colleges and addressing staff shortages in government colleges located in border areas.
Kamboj, who has been campaigning across colleges, schools and villages, said students in border districts face several difficulties in pursuing higher education. Therefore, her objective would not merely be to represent the region in the Senate but to consistently and strongly pursue issues concerning students, teachers and educational institutions of the area.
She pointed out that Ferozepur has not had its own Senate member for a long time who could effectively raise the region’s educational concerns and demands at the Panjab University level. She said the present election provides the people of Ferozepur an opportunity to elect a daughter of the region and fill this long-standing gap.
Encouraged by the response to her campaign, Team Rupkamal Chawla Kamboj expressed confidence that voters of Ferozepur would unite to support Serial No. 41 with their first-preference vote and send their own daughter to the Panjab University Senate.
