Cabinet Minister Sond inaugurates renovated new galleries “Rise, Struggle and Legacy” at Anglo-Sikh War Museum, Ferozeshah
Ferozepur, September 14, 2026: The renovated Anglo-Sikh War Museum at Ferozeshah on Monday was inaugurated by Tarunpreet Singh Sondh, Cabinet Minister for Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Labour, Hospitality, Rural Development and Panchayats, and Power.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the historic land of Ferozeshah stands witness to the matchless bravery, valour and sacrifice of the Sikh army. The museum is dedicated to the memory of the warriors who fought in the Anglo-Sikh Wars of 1845-46 and 1848-49. Ferozepur Rural MLA Rajnish Dahiya, Ferozepur Urban MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar, Guru Har Sahai MLA Fauja Singh Sarari, and AAP district president Harjinder Ghanga were among those present at the event.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh said the Punjab government had renovated the museum at a cost of nearly Rs 10 crore, almost 50 years after it was originally established. He said the government's aim was not just to preserve historical heritage, but to present this great history in a modern format to the younger generation and to tourists from India and abroad. He noted that earlier, visitors would learn about history through historical artefacts and paintings, but the new presentation would now offer them a living historical journey, blending art, light, sound and digital technology.
He explained that the museum's three floors have been designed as a continuous historical journey. The "Rise" section depicts the rise of Sikh rule, Maharaja Ranjit Singh and the British East India Company. The "Struggle" section presents a detailed account of the Anglo-Sikh Wars, while the "Legacy" section portrays the events that followed these wars and their enduring historical significance.
He said the ground floor features three-dimensional historical maps and projections explaining the shifting political landscape of the time, along with a special presentation on the Lahore Darbar that introduces visitors to the historical atmosphere of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's era.
Tarunpreet Singh Sondh said the battles of Mudki, Ferozeshah, Sabraon and Chelianwala have been depicted through murals, animated maps and audio-visual presentations, allowing visitors to understand the course of these wars while experiencing, at close quarters, the bravery, courage and sacrifice of the Sikh soldiers. He added that four historical paintings by renowned artist Kirpal Singh form a precious artistic legacy of the museum, and that the new presentation has preserved these paintings while weaving them into the historical narrative. Literary references such as the works of Shah Mohammad and Cunningham's History of the Sikhs have also been incorporated into the museum's presentation.
He further said touch panels, information kiosks, digital displays and audio-visual content have been used to make historical information more engaging, accessible and impactful, adding that the museum would prove highly beneficial for students, history researchers, young people and tourists.
Making a special appeal to youth and Generation Z to visit the museum, the Cabinet Minister said history was not something to be read only in books, but that visiting historical sites to learn about and draw inspiration from the bravery, sacrifice and heritage of one's ancestors was equally important. He said that today's inauguration was not merely the reopening of a renovated museum, but the infusion of new life into a half-century-old memorial, building a strong bridge between history and the new generation. He added that the Punjab government was making continuous efforts to preserve the state's rich historical and cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations.
On the occasion, Ferozepur Rural MLA Rajnish Kumar Dahiya thanked Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh for inaugurating the renovated Anglo-Sikh War Museum, Ferozeshah, and expressed hope that following its renovation, the museum would become a major attraction for history enthusiasts, students, researchers and tourists, and would play an important role in further highlighting the historical heritage of Ferozepur district.
