Bathinda/Rampura/ Bhagat Bhai Ka, Sep 27- Member of the Punjab State and Union Territory Chandigarh Human Rights Commission (PSHRC), Padma Shri Jatinder Singh Shunty, today conducted a public hearing during human rights awareness camps at Bhartiya Model Senior Secondary School, Rampura, and Star View Resort, Bhagat Bhai Ka.
The hearing camps were organised as part of the awareness campaign against drugs and for the redressal of public grievances. Officials from various government departments, representatives of social organisations and a large number of people participated in the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Padma Shri Jatinder Singh Shunty said that the primary objective of the Human Rights Commission is to protect the rights of every citizen, create awareness among people and provide timely justice to victims. He said that the Commission is continuously working to take its outreach to every household so that no person is deprived of his or her rights. He stated that any person can contact the Commission at its office at Sector-34A, Building No. 220, Chandigarh, or send a complaint in writing.
At the Rampura school, he also motivated the students under the anti-drug awareness campaign, urging them not to consume drugs and to educate others about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Similarly, complainants can send their application, a copy of their Aadhaar card and a copy of the complaint submitted to the police or any other institution to the Commission’s WhatsApp number 9855475547. The Commission will take appropriate action in the matter.
Padma Shri Shunty said that strict action would be taken against gangs involved in cheating people through fake visas, fake offer letters, fraudulent marriages and promises of sending people abroad. He said that such fraudsters would not be spared at any cost and legal action against them would be ensured.
He appreciated the work being carried out by the District Administration, Bathinda, for public welfare and directed the officials to be even more sensitive and vigilant in resolving public grievances. He also lauded the role of social organisations and NGOs and asked the District Administration to coordinate with such organisations to further strengthen social welfare activities.
He appealed to the people to contact Commission without any fear in case of violation of their rights.
On the occasion, he held a detailed meeting with officials of various government departments and representatives of social organisations and discussed various issues related to human rights. He also heard the grievances of people who had reached the camps and directed the concerned officials to take necessary action.
