DIG, SSP interact with SBSSU students to strengthen campus safety
Ferozepur, September 28, 2026: As part of a student-police outreach initiative, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ferozepur Range, Snehdeep Sharma, alongside Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ferozepur, Bhupinder Singh, addressed students and faculty at Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) State University, Ferozepur.
The primary objective of the interaction was to sensitize the student community against unverified social media rumours in light of recent student unrest reported at Chitkara University (Rajpura) and Lovely Professional University (Phagwara).
Addressing the gathering, DIG Snehdeep Sharma emphasized media literacy, cautioning students against circulating unverified content without proper fact-checking. He underscored the role of the integrated emergency helpline ‘112’, noting that citizens can rely on the service not only for immediate distress assistance but also to verify viral news and maintain public order. Students were encouraged to test the promptness of the helpline system and reach out whenever safety concerns arise.
Emphasizing open dialogue, the DIG urged students to voice genuine grievances constructively before university authorities rather than resorting to agitation. During an open floor discussion, students highlighted local issues, including delays in driving license issuance at the RTA office, speeding traffic along NH-5 near the campus entrance, and passenger buses skipping the designated university bus stop. Karan Sharma, DSP Ferozepur, was directed on the spot to coordinate with relevant departments and take swift remedial action.
SSP Ferozepur, Bhupinder Singh, outlined actionable measures to bolster campus security, with a special emphasis on women safety protocols and surveillance around hostel perimeters.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Suresh Kumar Sharma conveyed his gratitude to the district police leadership, requesting regular patrols and traffic regulation support at the university's main gate. University Registrar Dr. Rajiv Arora, along with senior faculty members and district police officers, was also present during the session.
