Surrey (Canada), October 10, 2026: Basant Motors Surrey has awarded $35,000 in scholarships to 17 meritorious students from diverse communities to support their higher education, marking the company’s 35th anniversary.
This year, the organisation awarded scholarships worth a cumulative $360,000 to 146 students through its education support initiative.
The annual scholarship ceremony brought together community representatives, radio hosts, academics, students and their families to recognise the achievements of the recipients and encourage them to pursue higher education.
Those who presented the scholarships and congratulated the students included former Pakistani MP Rai Aziz Ullah Khan, radio host Harjinder Singh Thind, Prof. Kashmira Singh, Sucha Singh Kaler, B.S. Ghuman, Dr. Stalanjit Singh Gill, Jatinder J. Minhas and radio host Vijay Saini.
Addressing the gathering, Baldev Singh Bath thanked the guests, students, parents and members of the community for their support over the years.
Reflecting on his journey, Bath said family, friends and the wider community had played a significant role in his life and achievements. He stressed that success was rarely an individual accomplishment, but was built on the support, encouragement and goodwill of others.
Drawing on his rural and agricultural background, Bath said hard work, family support, community ties and the lessons he had learnt from people had contributed to his progress.
He encouraged students to make the most of their lives and share their knowledge, experience and love with others. Comparing life to a deck of 52 playing cards, he said people must decide how to use the opportunities available to them rather than spend their lives dwelling on complaints and disappointment.
Bath said the annual scholarship programme was intended not only to provide financial assistance but also to motivate young people to pursue higher education and work towards their ambitions.
He added that even a modest contribution towards a student’s education could help them take a step closer to fulfilling their dreams. He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to continuing the initiative in the coming years.
The scholarship programme’s latest round brings the total number of beneficiaries to 146, with the cumulative amount awarded reaching $360,000, according to the information shared at the event.
