Chandigarh, October 13, 2026: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Joginder Singh Ugrahan said several farmers’ demands had been addressed following a two-hour meeting with the authorities, which he described as having been held in a cordial atmosphere.
On the issue of Ravi river water flowing into Pakistan, Ugrahan said the farmers had sought a report detailing the quantity of unused water flowing across the border. The report is expected to be provided within 20 days, he said.
Regarding ownership rights for settlers, Ugrahan demanded a review of the existing law and resolution of pending issues related to compensation. He said the law had been in force for two years, but its implementation had stalled, and called for ownership rights to be granted to eligible settlers.
On farmers’ financial concerns, Ugrahan said the demand for issuing passbooks to commission agents had been accepted, with the process expected to be completed within seven days.
He also said a one-time settlement scheme for debt relief through private banks would be implemented within 15 days.
Regarding issues requiring intervention by the Central government, Ugrahan said proposals concerning the Seed Bill, Electricity Bill and the US trade agreement had been submitted to the Centre.
On cases registered against farmers, he said 250 cases had been registered, of which 186 had been dismissed. Four cases were under investigation, while 11 more would be dismissed after the investigation. Cancellation reports would be filed in 16 cases, he added.
Ugrahan also said the issue of stubble burning was expected to be resolved within a few days.
