Patiala (Punjab), October 30, 2026: An internal rift has surfaced in Akali Dal Waris Punjab De (ADWPD), with the party's Principal Drafting Committee rejecting the high command's decision to suspend all district presidents and restructure the organisation.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by Gurdeep Singh Toor on behalf of the committee, the panel declared letter number ADWPD/10-26/161 null and void and sought an explanation from the party high command over the authority and procedure under which the decision was taken.
The committee questioned the timing of the move, alleging that the dissolution of district-level organisational units came shortly after it raised serious concerns about the functioning of the party leadership.
According to the committee, a six-page complaint was submitted to Acting President Tarsem Singh on October 20, 2026. The complaint reportedly raised allegations of undue interference by government officials in party appointments, alleged links of four individuals with government and intelligence agencies, the provision of new Innova vehicles to certain party functionaries, and alleged irregularities in government tenders and the distribution of election tickets.
The committee stated that these issues, along with supporting evidence, were also presented during a meeting held on October 27 with the Panj Piarai leadership council, comprising Tarsem Singh, Amarjit Singh Wanchari, Paramjit Singh Johal, Harbhajan Singh Toor and Sukhwinder Singh Agwan.
However, the committee alleged that instead of ordering an impartial inquiry into the complaints, the leadership proceeded to dissolve the district-level leadership structure.
It argued that removing long-serving district presidents without consultation raised questions about internal democracy and accountability within the organisation.
The Principal Drafting Committee has demanded an official clarification from the high command regarding the decision and the authority under which the district presidents were suspended.
It maintained that organisational restructuring should not be used to silence dissent and reiterated its commitment to internal democracy, Panthic principles and an impartial investigation into the allegations raised by its members.
