Breaking: Major landslide blocks road near Janglikh bridge in Shimla

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), September 28, 2026: A major landslide near Janglikh Bridge in the Chirgaon area of Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district disrupted vehicular movement on Monday after a large portion of the hillside collapsed onto the road.
Stones had reportedly been falling intermittently from the hillside since Sunday before a substantial section gave way on Monday morning, sending debris and large boulders onto the roadway.
No casualties or injuries were immediately reported. The road remained blocked as authorities reached the spot to assess the situation and undertake debris-clearance operations.
The landslide also temporarily obstructed the flow of water in nearby Sundaru Khad, raising concerns among residents about possible flooding. However, Rohru Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dharmesh Ramotra said the water flow had resumed and there was currently no risk of a lake-like situation forming.
Officials are monitoring the hillside and watercourse while efforts continue to clear the road and restore traffic movement.
