National Deworming Day observed at Anganwadi Centres in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, August 11, 2026: National Deworming Day was observed at all Anganwadi Centres across Ferozepur district under the Social Security and Women & Child Development Department, Punjab, with the objective of ensuring the health, nutrition and overall development of children.
National Deworming Day is a public health campaign in India held twice a year on February 10 and August 10. It aims to give free Albendazole tablets to all children and young people aged 1 to 19 years to stop worm infections, boost health, and improve learning.
On the occasion, children visiting the Anganwadi centres were administered deworming medicine and made aware of health problems caused by intestinal worms. Their parents were also provided detailed information about the importance of deworming, proper nutrition, personal hygiene and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The children were encouraged to wash their hands with soap before eating food and after using the toilet, drink clean water, keep their nails trimmed and maintain cleanliness in and around their homes. They were also educated about the importance of consuming nutritious food and adopting healthy habits for proper growth and development.
District Programme Officer Gurjit Kaur said that Deworming Day was an important initiative aimed at protecting children from intestinal worms and ensuring their good health, nutrition and mental development.
She emphasised that regular deworming, along with proper hygiene and a balanced diet, plays an important role in maintaining children's overall well-being and supporting their healthy growth.
