Under the Punjab Government’s campaign ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ (War Against Drugs), launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the District Administration organised an awareness seminar at DAV Public School, Sri Muktsar Sahib, under the ‘Zindagi Zindabad – No to Drugs, Yes to Life’ mission.
Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, who attended the seminar as the chief guest, urged students to stay away from drugs and play an active role in building a drug-free society.
Addressing the students, the Deputy Commissioner said that meaningful thinking, firm determination and collective cooperation can help society overcome the menace of drugs and achieve every goal.
He emphasised that the success of the anti-drug awareness campaign requires the active participation of every section of society along with the government and administration.
‘Students Can Become Ambassadors of the Anti-Drug Campaign’
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to students to actively join the campaign and educate other youngsters in their surroundings about the harmful effects of drugs.
He said that if students come forward as volunteers and spread awareness against drug abuse, the campaign can achieve meaningful and lasting results.
“The District Administration is making every possible effort to curb the menace of drugs. The combined efforts of the administration and NGOs can further strengthen this campaign,” said Panchal.
He further expressed confidence that students would not only keep themselves away from drugs but also motivate their friends and fellow students to stay away from this social evil.
“If we continue moving forward with positive thinking and firm determination, the dream of making Punjab a ‘Rangla Punjab’ once again will certainly become a reality,” he said, while thanking all NGOs associated with the campaign.
Students Urged to Resist Peer Pressure
Earlier, Rupinderjit Singh addressed the students and stressed the need to understand the drug problem seriously. He said that drug use sometimes begins due to peer pressure, and urged students to remain conscious of their decisions and firmly stay away from drugs.
Advocate Narvir Singh Gill motivated students to channel their energy towards constructive and positive pursuits. He said that with hard work and dedication, young people can aspire to achieve prestigious and responsible positions such as IAS and IPS.
He said that if the energy and thinking of the youth are given the right direction, a new Punjab can be created—one known not for drugs, but for progress, employment, positive thinking and a corruption-free system.
Healthy Lifestyle Essential for a Bright Future
Assistant Professor Dr. Inderjot Kaur Sidhu also motivated students to stay away from drugs. She explained various factors that can lead youngsters into drug abuse and urged them to remain focused on their future and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Naresh Pruthi, Chairman of the District NGOs Association, Sri Muktsar Sahib, said that NGOs are actively supporting the District Administration in the campaign against drugs.
He assured that NGO teams would stand shoulder to shoulder with the administration wherever assistance is required and extend every possible support to eradicate the menace of drugs.
Students Take Pledge to Make Society Drug-Free
During the seminar, students took a pledge to actively contribute towards spreading awareness against drug abuse and making society drug-free.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner also honoured representatives of various NGOs associated with the anti-drug campaign for their contribution.
Among those present were Additional Deputy Commissioner Devi Goyal, SDM Sri Muktsar Sahib Gurkirandeep Singh Sidhu, SP (H) Harkamal Kaur, District Education Officer Yadvinder Singh Mann, Muktsar Welfare Club President Jaspreet Singh Chhabra, social worker Dr. Vijay Bajaj, Gurnishan Singh Hair, Dr. Vijay Sukhija, Lavish Sain, Boota Ram Kamra, Jaspal Singh, Leeladhar Gupta, along with students and other dignitaries.
