Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights visits Pediatric Ward of GMCH 32
Chandigarh, June 10, 2021:
Keeping in view, the third Covid-19 wave is expected to affect children the most , Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) team including Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR, Dr. Monika Singh, Member CCPCR and Niti Mohan, Empanelled Consultant visited Pediatric Wards of GMCH 32 Chandigarh. In the Commission's Visit, all five children wards were visited and the team interacted with the children there.
While interacting with the CCPCR team, Dr Vishal Guglani, Professor & Head, Department of Pediatrics, GMCH Sector 32, Chandigarh said, “Children below 5 years of age do not require masks and it's not appropriate. Children above 12 years of age have to mandatorily wear masks like all adults. We have to take special precaution while dealing with children under 5-year-age as they normally do not give medication to them”.
There are 8 COVID patients, out of which 6 COVID positive children are from Chandigarh. The age group of the children are (0-6 : 4, 7-12 yrs – 2 13-18 yrs : 2. While speaking on the occasion, Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR said, “Its good to know the children from 2 ICU wards and 3 wards GMCH-32 have recovered and our now in healthy state. There are 5 levels of care provided to the children to ensure their holistic health and wellbeing”.
CCPCR has forwarded the list of COVID children to DCPU and CWC to ensure they get additional financial and non-financial support. The Commission post visit has also decided to set up child friendly areas and undertake child friendly activities to boost the morale of children.
