MLA Bhullar appeals to citizens to stop use of single-use plastic
Ferozepur, July 20, 2022: Carrying forward the spirit of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava’ — 75th year of Independence, a defining step to curb pollution caused by littered and unmanaged plastic waste is being taken by the country, the Municipal Council has taken the initiative to make the city clean and beautiful. The plastic bags are hard to clean or remove from the environment and to effectively ban the sale and use of single use plastic, the violators will be dealt with severely.
Making an appeal to the people to follow the instructions of the government to make the city clean and litter-free, Ranbir Singh Bhullar, MLA Ferozepur Urban said, the pollution due to single use plastic items has become an important environmental challenge confronting all countries.
A ban on the use of single-use plastics that was notified by the Union Environment Ministry in August 2021 came into effect on July 1 this year. Carrying forward the spirit of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava’ — 75th year of Independence, a defining step to curb pollution caused by littered and unmanaged plastic waste is being taken by the country.
Bhullar said, thus, everyone should come forward to contribute in this campaign by taking a pledge saying no to plastic so that the production of waste in the city is less and the city can become more clean.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Council has also arranged a ‘munadi’ in the city putting wiser the residents and shopkeepers to take notice of the instructions on ban of use of plastic items, said Sanjay Bansal, Executive Officer.
He said, we need an awareness campaign to turn this into a mass movement. He also made an appeal to citizens to avoid using single-use plastic during any social function. It will be a great contribution to make the city beautiful, if we avoid using single plastic during this holy occasion.
Gurinder Singh, Chief Sanitary Inspector, Sukhpal Singh, Sanitary Inspector, Manmeet Singh Mithu, Gagan Kantore, Harpreet Bath and local citizens were also present.
