Chandigarh, September 3, 2025 — Panjab University students are exercising their franchise today to elect the new Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC). More than 16,000 students are registered to vote in elections scheduled to open at 9:30 am and conclude at 11:00 am, with results expected by this evening.
This year’s fiercely contested race for the PUCSC president features eight candidates, including three women, marking a notable development in student representation. The presidential candidates are Parabjot Singh, Gouravveer Sohal, Mankirat Singh Maan, Sumit Sharma, Ardas, Navneet Kaur, Joban, and Seerat. Alongside the presidency, there are five candidates each for the posts of vice-president and general secretary, and four vying for joint secretary.
Last year, Anurag Dalal was elected as president, setting a precedent for independent leadership. This year, shifting alliances and fresh faces have added intrigue to the contest, which is being closely watched by the university community.
The election is a significant event for the campus as it reflects the democratic spirit among students and their engagement in shaping university policies and activities. The university awaits the declaration of results, which will determine the leadership for the coming year.
Students and faculty alike hope for a transparent and peaceful polling process. The arrival of results this evening will reveal who will lead the student body at Panjab University in the 2025-26 academic year.
