Chandigarh, November 10, 2025 — Tension gripped Panjab University (PU) on Sunday as protesters supporting the ongoing “PU Bachao Morcha” broke open Gate No. 1 and entered the campus, despite heavy police presence and barricading.
From early morning, large groups of students, youth, and members of various organisations and colleges had been gathering outside all three university gates in support of the protest. The crowd swelled steadily through the day, with slogans and banners demanding the rollback of decisions perceived to undermine the university’s autonomy.
Despite the massive deployment of Chandigarh Police and strict security arrangements around the campus, the force was unable to stop the protesters from breaching the main gate. Eyewitnesses said the police briefly attempted to block entry but were overpowered by the sheer number of demonstrators.
The “PU Bachao Morcha,” backed by several student unions and farmer organisations, had earlier called for a major gathering today, urging the public to join in defence of the university’s rights and status.
