Sri Anandpur Sahib (Punjab), November 10, 2025 — In a landmark educational initiative, the Punjab Government has announced that the life, teachings, and supreme sacrifice of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, the Ninth Guru of the Sikhs, will now be taught in all government and private schools across the state. The announcement coincides with the ongoing 350th Martyrdom Anniversary commemorations of the revered Guru.
The initiative was formally launched today by Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains during ceremonies held at Government High School Dasgrai and Mount Carmel School Jindwari in district Rupnagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Bains said that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji stands as a timeless symbol of faith, sacrifice, and communal harmony, whose teachings transcend religion and geography.
“Guru Sahib’s martyrdom was not just for Sikhs but for the protection of humanity and freedom of conscience. It is our responsibility to ensure every child understands this glorious heritage,” he said.
Under this program, schools will hold special lectures, poetry recitations, essay and speech competitions, art activities, and book exhibitions highlighting Guru Sahib’s life and message. Large-scale commemorative events will also be organized to help students connect deeply with the Guru’s principles of truth, tolerance, and courage.
The launch event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia, Assistant Commissioner Abhimanyu Malik, and SDM Jaspreet Singh, who praised the initiative, calling it a vital step towards value-based education and character development among the youth.
Minister Bains emphasized that the government’s mission is not limited to imparting academic knowledge but aims to build compassionate, self-reliant, and socially responsible citizens.
He urged teachers across Punjab to pass on Guru Sahib’s message of unity and sacrifice with “love, devotion, and sincerity.”
