Grand Finale of 3-Day Mayank Sharma Memorial Open Badminton Championship
Ferozepur’s Japleen Kaur and Jalandhar’s Zorawar Singh Emerge as Stars with Double Gold
FEROZEPUR, December 29, 2025: With a mission to channelize youth energy through sports, the 8th Mayank Sharma Memorial Punjab Open Badminton Championship concluded with a grand and memorable ceremony at the Rai Bahadur Vishnu Bhagwan Auditorium of Das & Brown World School. Organized by The Mayank Foundation, the three-day event witnessed high-octane sporting action and emotional tributes.
The prestigious championship saw the participation of over 400 budding shuttlers in Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17 categories from Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu, and Chandigarh. The event was successfully held under the chairmanship of Dr. Anirudh Gupta, President of The Mayank Foundation, with the special cooperation of the Punjab Badminton Association and District Badminton Association.
Distinguished Guests and Encouragement
Founder of the Foundation, Deepak Sharma, shared that the inaugural ceremony was graced by SSP Ferozepur Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, industrialist Sameer Mittal, Director of Medicity Ferozepur Dr. Subodh Kakkar, Nand Kishore Guggan, Advocate Sham Monga, Press Club President Mandeep Kumar Monty, and Dr. Abhishek Arora.
On the second day, ADC Nidhi Kumud, Danish Kakkar, Rotarian Vijay Arora, Ashok Behal, Dr. Ashwani Kalia, Dr. Jyoti Kalia, Dr. Naveen Sethi, Shalinder Kumar, and Vipul Narang encouraged the players.
The concluding ceremony was graced by John Vikas (CEO, Ferozepur Cantonment Board), Gurpreet Singh Judge (President, Zira Municipal Council), and Dr. Kamal Baghi as Chief Guests. Special guests included Vinay Vohra (Vice President, Punjab Badminton Association), Manoj Gupta, Ashok Wadhera, Tinku Gupta, Manish Punj, Sanjay Kataria, Piyush, and CA Himanshu Gupta.
Professional Conduct and Exciting Rewards
Project Incharges Rakesh Kumar and Deepak Mathpal noted that the matches were intensely competitive. Winners were awarded cash prizes of ₹15,000, while runners-up received ₹11,000, along with trophies and certificates. The technical operations were professionally managed by an 8-member expert team from Delhi led by Ravi Chauhan.
A Tribute to Mayank’s Legacy
This tournament is held annually in memory of Mayank Sharma, a talented badminton player who tragically lost his life in a road accident in 2017. The Mayank Foundation was established to keep his passion for the sport alive and provide a platform for future athletes. Beyond sports, the Foundation remains active in education, scholarships, arts, and traffic awareness.
