Nawanshahr, June 23:
In a important step towards ensuring a transparent and inclusive electoral process, the District Election Officer-cum-DC Gulpreet Singh Aulakh convened a meeting with representatives of various political parties to discuss the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls–2026. The meeting was held in compliance with the directives of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab.
The District Election Officer outlined the schedule and key activities of the revision exercise, which is set to commence on June 25, 2026. During this period, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from all Assembly Constituencies in the district will visit every voter’s residence to distribute Enumeration Forms (EF).
Voters are required to fill out these forms, which will then be collected by the BLOs and submitted to the respective Electoral Registration Officers.
To ensure a seamless revision process, preparatory meetings are being held on June 23 and 24, 2026. These meetings involve BLOs and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties.
The focus is on sharing information about voters whose records remain unmapped with the 2003 Electoral Roll and seeking assistance from BLAs to address such discrepancies.
This collaborative effort aims to enhance the accuracy and inclusiveness of the updated electoral rolls.
The meeting saw active participation from representatives of major political parties in the district. Attendees included Jaspreet Singh Ruby Kang and Satnam Jalalpur from the Aam Aadmi Party; Jarnail Singh Khalsa, Dinesh Kumar, and Harpreet Singh Khalsa from the Shiromani Akali Dal; Jarnail Singh Ranewal and Jaswinder Singh Bhangal from the CPI(M); Sarbjit Jafarpur and Harvilas Basra from the Bahujan Samaj Party; Subhash Chander and Baljinder Singh from the Congress Party; and Munish Agnihotri and Gurjeet Singh from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The District Election Officer emphasized the critical role of political parties in ensuring the success of the revision exercise. “The cooperation of political parties is essential for identifying and addressing gaps in voter records.
This initiative is aimed at strengthening our democratic process by ensuring that every eligible voter is accounted for,” he stated.
Key district administration officials were also present at the meeting to provide insights and support for the initiative. These included Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanjeev Sharma, Election Tehsildar Amandeep Singh, and Jasvir Singh, PA to the Deputy Commissioner.
The Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls–2026 is expected to play a pivotal role in preparing an accurate and comprehensive voter list for the upcoming elections.
By engaging both administrative officials and political party representatives, the district administration aims to foster a collaborative environment that upholds democratic values and ensures fair representation for all citizens.
As Nawanshahr gears up for this critical exercise, voters are urged to cooperate with BLOs during their visits and provide accurate information to ensure their inclusion in the electoral rolls.
