Babushahi Bureau
New Delhi, June 3, 2026: The Central Government has approved the premature repatriation of Himanshu Gupta (IAS: AGMUT, 2012 batch), Secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), to his parent cadre in the Ministry of Home Affairs on administrative grounds.
According to an official order, the proposal for Gupta’s premature repatriation was submitted by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education and has been approved by the competent authority.
As part of the decision, Gupta will return to his parent AGMUT cadre before the completion of his central deputation tenure. The order also stipulates an ‘extended cooling-off’ period, making him ineligible for another central deputation until December 12, 2030.
Gupta was serving as Secretary of the CBSE, one of India’s largest educational boards, under the Ministry of Education. His repatriation comes as part of an administrative decision taken by the government.
No official reason beyond “administrative grounds” has been cited in the order for the premature curtailment of his tenure.
Further details regarding his successor and future posting are awaited.
