MP Satnam Singh Sandhu intervenes to resolve Passport, PCC issues faced by Indians in Spain
Members of India Diaspora in Spain Get Major Relief with Speedy Clearance of Pending Passport Renewal Cases in Madrid & Barcelona

Chandigarh, June 6, 2026: Thousands of Indian diaspora in Spain have got a major relief as pending cases of renewal or re-issuing of passports and Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs) for Indian nationals residing in Madrid and Barcelona have been expedited and the issue has been resolved with the intervention of the Union Ministry of External Affairs.
Members of the Indian diaspora in Spain have extended gratitude to Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, Satnam Singh Sandhu for taking with the matter with the MEA following which the issue of renewals and re-issue of passports, Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs) and other critical documentation services affecting Indians living in Madrid and Barcelona was resolved.
They have appealed MP Sandhu to take up the matter of about remaining 150 such pending cases in Barcelona with the Union External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar for expediting their clearance on priority basis.
This issue was brought to the notice of MP Satnam Singh Sandhu on 7 May when members of the Indian diaspora, including the Sikh Gurdwara community across Spain and other Indian community organizations, highlighted the severe difficulties being faced by Indian nationals including Punjabis in obtaining essential documentation including passports renewals and pending PCCs. Following this, MP Sandhu had written to the senior officials of the MEA, urging the ministry to expedite passport renewals and the issuance process for Indian nationals residing in Spain, particularly those living in Madrid and Barcelona.
Extending gratitude to MP Sandhu for his prompt response, members of the Indian diaspora in Spain, Kulwinder Singh said, “I thank MP Sandhu for clearance of over 41,000 pending cases of renewal or re-issuing of passports in Madrid and Barcelona. After MP Sandhu took up the matter with Indian government which led to clearance of almost all 21,000 pending cases in Madrid and about 20,000 in Barcelona. Now about 150 such cases of passport renewal delays due to documentation-related are pending in Barcelona, we appeal MP Sandhu to ensure intervention of the MEA to resolving these pending cases also so that Indian youth can live is Spain without facing any problems,”.
Assuring all help to Indians in Barcelona, MP Satnam Singh Sandhu -- who earlier in May had written to the Union Ministry of External Affairs to expedite passport renewals and the issuance process for Indian nationals residing in Madrid and Barcelona, said, “I will take up the matter with the authiortuies in MEA and do all possible things to expedite clearance of pending cases of renewal or re-issuing of passports in Barcelona on priority basis,”.
Sandhu further said “The Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very sensitive on such issues and taken prompt action whenever we bring such issues to the attention of government. I express my gratitude to PM Modi and MEA for getting over 41,000 pending cases in Madrid and Barcelona cleared. I will take up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure that 150 pending cases of Indian community in Barcelona are cleared at the earliest,”.
