Shimla (Punjab), June 14, 2026: Himachal Pradesh celebrated a proud moment as nine young men and one woman from the state were commissioned as officers in the Indian Army and Indian Air Force after successfully completing their training at the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, and Air Force training institutions.
The newly commissioned officers took the oath to serve the nation during the Passing Out Parade, bringing honour to their families and communities across the state.
Among the achievers is Devanshi Sharma from Samhoon village in Hamirpur district, who has been commissioned as a Flying Officer in the Indian Air Force. Inspired by her grandfather, retired Colonel Roshan Lal Sharma, Devanshi fulfilled her childhood dream of serving the country.
Another proud achiever is Nitin Thakur from Baijnath subdivision, who has been commissioned as a Flying Officer and fighter pilot. Coming from a family with a strong military background, Nitin follows in the footsteps of both his grandfather and maternal grandfather, who served in the armed forces.
Animesh Kumar of Baijnath was commissioned into the Indian Army after completing his training. He belongs to a family with a long tradition of public service and military leadership.
From the Giripar region of Sirmaur district, Vivek Chauhan and Tejendra Thakur were commissioned as Army officers. Vivek's achievement is particularly significant as his father, Colonel J.S. Chauhan, had also graduated from the IMA and joined the Army through the same historic parade ground in 2002.
In Una district, Arpit Jaswal realized his dream of becoming an Army officer and has been posted to the Bombay Engineers regiment.
Meanwhile, Gaurav Thakur from Dharamshala was also commissioned as an Army officer. He comes from a family with deep military roots, with both his father and grandfather having served in the Indian Army.
The achievements of these young officers have been widely celebrated across Himachal Pradesh, with families, local residents, and community leaders expressing pride in their commitment to national service and their successful journey into the armed forces.
