Rohtak (Haryana), June 20, 2026: Tension gripped Haryana’s Meham constituency after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at the office of Congress MLA Balram Dangi late Friday night.
According to police, four rounds were fired at the legislator’s office located on the main road in Meham town. Two bullets pierced through the glass of the main entrance door, while the other two became lodged in the aluminium door, causing damage to the premises.
The incident came to light on Saturday morning when the MLA was informed about the attack. Police officials from Meham Police Station immediately rushed to the spot and began an investigation.
Authorities have launched a detailed probe and are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify those responsible for the firing. Police teams also inspected the office premises and collected evidence from the scene.
Speaking to officials during the inspection, MLA Balram Dangi sought a thorough investigation into the incident.
Meham is considered a politically significant constituency in Haryana. The region has remained in the spotlight since the infamous Meham episode of 1990 and has also been represented by former Haryana Chief Minister Devi Lal. The Dangi family has long been associated with the constituency, with Balram Dangi’s father, Anand Singh Dangi, having represented the seat multiple times before Balram Dangi won the assembly election.
Police officials said efforts are underway to identify the suspects and ascertain the motive behind the attack. No injuries have been reported in the incident.
Further investigation is in progress.
