Gangstran Te Vaar: Over 38K individuals arrested with 716 weapons in 5 months

Chandigarh, June 20, 2026: As the decisive ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign completed five months, Punjab Police has arrested 38,738 individuals including gangsters and criminals associated with them after conducting 93,927 raids across the state since the launch of the campaign.
Pertinently, the “Gangstran Te Vaar”— a decisive war to make Punjab a gangster-free state was launched by the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026. Police teams from all the districts in coordination with Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab have been conducting raids at the identified and mapped locations linked to associates of gangsters.
Special DGP Law and Order Praveen Sinha said that police teams have recovered 716 weapons along with 1,976 live cartridges and 209 magazines, 187 sharp-edged weapons and seven hand grenades from the possession of arrested individuals.
Apart from this, preventive action has been initiated against 15,825 persons, whereas, 18,042 persons were verified and released after questioning, he said, while adding that Police teams have also arrested 1,244 proclaimed offenders (POs) since the campaign was launched.
On Day 151, Police teams arrested 348 individuals after conducting 575 raids, while, preventive action has been taken against 125 persons and arrested five proclaimed offenders (POs).
The Special DGP said that the 'Gangstran Te Vaar' campaign will continue with same vigor.
People can anonymously report information related to wanted criminals and gangsters, and also share tips on crime and criminal activity, through the Anti Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946.
Meanwhile, Police teams have continued its drive against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” for 476th day with 103 drug smugglers arrested on Saturday and recovered 848 grams heroin, 12 kg poppy husk, 1308 intoxicant tablets/capsules and Rs 6756 drug money from their possession. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 69,201 in just 476 days. As part of De-addiction, the Punjab Police has convinced 13 persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment today.

*SEC announces the schedule for conduct General Elections to elect the members of Municipal Corporation, Hoshiarpur, Municipal Council Guru Har Sahai, Municipal Council Jalalabad and Nagar Panchayat, Mamdot*

The State Election Commission, Punjab has announced the schedule for conducting general elections to the following Municipal Bodies:
i) Municipal Corporation, Hoshiarpur (District Hoshiarpur),
ii) Municipal Council, Guru Har Sahai, (District Ferozepur),
iii) Municipal Council, Jalalabad (District Fazilka), and
iv) Nagar Panchayat, Mamdot (District Ferozepur).
As per the election schedule, the period for filing nomination papers will start from 22.06.2026 (Monday) (between 11:00 A.M. to 03:00 P.M.), in the O/o of the concerned Returning Officer designated for the purpose.
The last date for filing nominations will be 25.06.2026 (Thursday) (upto 03:00 P.M.). Scrutiny of the nominations will take place on 26.06.2026 (Friday).
The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be 27.06.2026 (Saturday) by 03:00 P.M. Elections to these Municipal Bodies shall be held on 05.07.2026 (Sunday), from 08:00 A.M. to 04:00 P.M. Voting shall be done through EVMs. The Counting of the votes will take place on the same day immediately after the completion of poll, at the polling station itself.
The Commission has made all the logistical arrangements to conduct these elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the jurisdiction of the Municipal Councils where the elections are going to be held. It will remain in force till the completion of the election process.
