Ferozepur Rail Division emerges as major rail loading hub with record perishable fruit transportation
Ferozepur, July 7, 2026: The Ferozepur Railway Division has been setting new benchmarks in the transportation of perishable fruits by rail, emerging as one of the country's leading loading hubs for fruit consignments, under the tutelage of Divisional Railway Manager Sanjeev Kumar.
Major railway stations under the division—Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar City—are now dispatching large quantities of perishable fruits through both SLR (Seating-cum-Luggage Rake) and VP (Parcel Van) services to destinations across the country. The Railway's fast, safe and economical transportation services have also enabled small traders to access wider markets by joining hands with larger fruit merchants to transport their produce by rail, significantly reducing logistics costs.
Reflecting the growing confidence in rail transport, Ferozepur Division has witnessed a substantial increase in fruit loading. During June 2026, consignments of cherries and litchis were dispatched from Amritsar to Bandra Terminus (Mumbai), Surat and Vadodara, while litchis and pears were sent to Howrah/Kolkata.
Similarly, Ludhiana shipped litchi consignments to Bina, Bhopal, Bandra Terminus, Patna, Surat, Pune and Kanpur, while Jalandhar City dispatched consignments to Bina, Nagpur and Raipur.
Railway figures show that Amritsar station booked 20,410 boxes (309 tonnes) of perishable fruits through SLR and VP services. Ludhiana recorded the booking of 95 boxes (1,630 kg), while Jalandhar City booked 515 boxes (6,980 kg) during the period.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Freight) Paramdeep Singh Saini said the Ferozepur Division remains committed to providing customers with reliable, efficient and time-bound freight transportation services. He attributed the significant growth in freight loading to the sustained efforts of the Division's Business Development Unit (BDU) and its close coordination with traders, which has helped strengthen rail-based logistics for perishable commodities.
