Punjab Police bring back Wanted Gangster Jobanjit ‘Joban Billa’ Singh from Indonesia
Accused, wanted in four murder cases, was deported after a six-month international manhunt involving Indian and overseas agencies

Chandigarh, July 25, 2026: Fugitive gangster Jobanjit Singh alias Joban Billa, wanted in multiple criminal cases in Punjab, has been deported from Indonesia and brought back to India following a joint operation by the Punjab Police and central agencies.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the accused was detained in Indonesia on July 20 and deported to India. He was taken into custody by Punjab Police at Mumbai airport and is being brought to Punjab for further investigation.
According to the DGP, the deportation concluded Operation Nomad Hunt, a six-month operation led by the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) in coordination with national and international law enforcement agencies.
Joban Billa is wanted in several serious criminal cases, including four murder cases, as well as offences under the Arms Act and the NDPS Act. Police said he had been evading arrest by moving across multiple countries.
Investigators said the accused fled India in January 2025 using a passport allegedly obtained with forged identity documents. Police claimed he first travelled to the United Arab Emirates before moving to Georgia and later Indonesia.
The DGP said Punjab Police had secured a Red Corner Notice against the accused and shared intelligence on his movements and the alleged fake passport with central agencies. Multiple references were also made through INTERPOL before he was traced and detained in Indonesia.
Additional Director General of Police (AGTF) Promod Ban said Joban Billa is wanted in connection with the murders of Jarnail Singh in Amritsar in 2023, Deepu Ajnala in January 2024, 12-year-old Gursewak Singh in March 2025, and Vicky Chugh later that month.
Punjab Police recently set up the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) to coordinate efforts to trace and bring back criminals who have fled abroad. Officials said the latest deportation is part of the state’s ongoing drive against organised crime.
