Chandigarh, August 3, 2026: The Punjab Vidhan Sabha session began on Monday amid protests by Congress MLAs, who arrived wearing black clothes and black scarves while demanding the resignation of Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains over the alleged paper leak.
The Assembly also witnessed a heated exchange between Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains. During the confrontation, Bains said, “I have come fully prepared; don’t run away.”
Meanwhile, posters carrying slogans such as “Go Back Baghel” and “Raja, Remove Baghel, Save Congress” surfaced in Sri Muktsar Sahib ahead of a meeting involving Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel. The posters were seen as a sign of opposition to Baghel within Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring’s home district.
During the session, Bains also informed the House that 31,370 posts are lying vacant in the Punjab Education Department.
In Bihar, early trends from the Bankipur Assembly seat showed Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor leading, with the BJP in second place.
