Cabinet Secretary T.V Somanathan’s term extended

New Delhi, August 5, 2026: The Government of India has approved a one-year extension in the tenure of Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan, allowing him to continue in the country’s top bureaucratic position beyond the end of his current term.
According to an official order issued on August 5, 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the extension. Somanathan’s present tenure was scheduled to end on August 30, 2026.
With the latest decision, Dr. Somanathan will continue to serve as Cabinet Secretary for another year beyond the scheduled end of his tenure, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
