An important meeting with representatives of all recognised political parties in the district was held today under the chairmanship of Amit Kumar Panchal, IAS, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Sri Muktsar Sahib, following the completion of the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being conducted in Punjab as per the directions of the Election Commission of India.
The meeting was convened after the completion of the House-to-House Enumeration phase of the SIR exercise.
The District Election Officer informed the political party representatives that the House-to-House Enumeration work under SIR was successfully completed on August 3, 2026. Sharing the district-wise data and progress report, he stated that out of a total of 6,93,936 registered electors in the district, Enumeration Forms of 6,52,609 electors had been received and digitised, accounting for 94.04 per cent of the total electorate.
He further informed that Enumeration Forms of 41,327 electors had not been received. Of these, 17,157 electors had reportedly died, while 16,126 electors had permanently shifted their residence to other cities or places, resulting in non-receipt of their Enumeration Forms.
Draft Electoral Roll to be Published on August 13
The District Election Officer specifically informed that the draft electoral roll will be published on August 13, 2026. Copies of the draft electoral roll will be provided to all recognised political parties. The electoral roll will also be available at the District Election Office, offices of the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and with Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
He further stated that if the name of any eligible elector does not appear in the draft electoral roll, the elector can submit a fresh claim by filling Form 6 from August 13 to September 12, 2026, a period of 30 days. The claim can be submitted to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Booth Level Officer (BLO).
Notices to be Issued to Unmapped Electors
The District Election Officer informed the meeting that only 24,397 electors in the district have remained unmapped.
Notices to such electors will be issued from August 13, 2026. In response to the notice, the concerned electors may submit any one of the 12 documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India, including documents such as a birth certificate or educational qualification certificate, to the concerned ERO/Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO).
After examining the documents and conducting the required hearing, the Electoral Registration Officer will pass an appropriate order in each case.
The final publication of the electoral roll is scheduled for October 12, 2026.
Polling Stations Increased from 753 to 760
The District Election Officer further informed that Sri Muktsar Sahib district earlier had 753 polling stations. Following the rationalisation exercise carried out in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India, the number of polling stations has now increased by seven, taking the total to 760 polling stations in the district.
Political Parties Urged to Extend Full Cooperation
The District Election Officer appealed to representatives of all recognised political parties to continue extending their full cooperation in the upcoming stages of the SIR process, as they had done during the earlier phase.
He emphasised that the active participation and cooperation of all stakeholders would be crucial for ensuring the smooth, transparent and successful completion of the Special Intensive Revision process in the district.
The meeting provided an opportunity for representatives of recognised political parties to be apprised of the progress made during the House-to-House Enumeration phase and the arrangements for the next stages of the electoral roll revision process.
