Punjab Defence Services Welfare Dept appoints 51 personnel to strengthen services for ex-servicemen

SAS Nagar (Punjab), August 9, 2026: The Punjab Government has appointed 51 new personnel in the Defence Services Welfare Department to strengthen welfare services for ex-servicemen, families of martyrs, widows and their dependents.
Cabinet Minister for Defence Services Welfare, Freedom Fighters and Horticulture Mohinder Bhagat handed over appointment letters to the newly recruited personnel at Sainik Sadan, Mohali.
The appointments include eight District Defence Services Welfare Officers, 42 Sainik Welfare Organisers and one clerk.
Bhagat said the new appointments would strengthen the department's functioning and help ensure faster and more effective delivery of welfare services at the district level.
He said the department had been facing a staff shortage for a considerable period, which had affected welfare-related work for ex-servicemen and their families. With the latest appointments, around 20 per cent of the existing staff shortage in the department has been addressed, he added.
Congratulating the newly appointed employees, Bhagat said a government job was not merely a means of employment but also an opportunity to serve the people. He urged them to perform their duties with honesty, dedication and a people-oriented approach.
The minister said the Defence Services Welfare Department has a key responsibility in ensuring the timely resolution of welfare-related issues concerning ex-servicemen, families of martyrs, widows and their dependents.
He urged the newly appointed personnel to give priority to the needs of these families and assured that the Punjab Government remained committed to their welfare and rehabilitation.
Principal Secretary, Defence Services Welfare Department, Sumer Singh Gurjar; Director Brigadier Bhupinder Singh Dhillon (Retd.); and other senior officers and employees were present at the event.
