Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana provides 2.44 lakh cashless treatments worth Rs 316.50 crore

Chandigarh, August 9, 2026: The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana has provided 2,44,468 cashless treatments worth more than ₹316.50 crore through its 10 most frequently availed procedures, according to data shared by the State Health Agency (SHA), Punjab.
The procedures covered under the scheme include dialysis, cardiac care, knee and hip replacements, Caesarean deliveries and various surgeries, providing financial relief to families facing expensive medical treatment.
Chronic haemodialysis remains the most frequently availed procedure, with 1,87,656 dialysis sessions worth over ₹30.65 crore provided under the scheme. The coverage is aimed at helping patients with chronic kidney disease continue regular treatment without the burden of arranging funds for every hospital visit.
Laparoscopic gall bladder surgery is the second most availed procedure, with 17,698 treatments provided. This is followed by 10,751 Total Knee Replacement surgeries, helping elderly patients regain mobility and independence.
The scheme has also covered 9,317 Caesarean deliveries, providing cashless maternal healthcare to women and reducing the financial burden on families.
Cardiac care is another major component of the scheme. According to the data, 8,734 patients underwent Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) along with diagnostic angiography, while 554 patients received Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG).
In addition, the scheme has covered 5,770 Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) procedures for kidney stones, 2,247 lower ureter surgeries, 911 Cementless Total Hip Replacement surgeries and 830 radical surgical procedures.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said the success of a healthcare programme should be measured by whether patients receive timely treatment without being pushed into financial distress.
He said the figures represented thousands of families who had received treatment without having to worry about hospital bills.
“Whether it is a patient requiring lifelong dialysis, an elderly person undergoing knee replacement, a woman needing a safe Caesarean delivery, or someone requiring emergency heart treatment, Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana is ensuring that financial constraints never become a barrier to healthcare,” the minister said.
Dr Balbir Singh added that the range of procedures covered under the scheme reflected the government’s effort to strengthen healthcare beyond routine treatment and provide support for complex and costly medical conditions.
The government said the scheme is also helping reduce the financial impact of chronic illnesses, while improving access to specialised treatment for elderly patients, women and people requiring long-term medical care.
