Chandigarh, September 12, 2026: Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot has demanded the dismissal of Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and announced a protest march to the minister’s official residence in Chandigarh on September 15 over the death of Gulzar Singh.
Pilot said top Punjab Congress leaders would join the protest march, demanding justice for Gulzar Singh’s family and an impartial, time-bound investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to Pilot, Gulzar Singh had raised concerns with the minister over the alleged worsening drug problem in Punjab and was subsequently subjected to pressure and mental harassment. Pilot alleged that Gulzar Singh later died by suicide after consuming poison.
Pilot further claimed that Gulzar Singh had named the minister in a video recorded before his death.
The Congress leader also raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding Gulzar Singh’s last rites, alleging that the family was not given due respect during the cremation.
The Punjab Congress has demanded that Cheema be removed from the ministerial post and that the entire matter be investigated through an impartial and time-bound probe.
