Kisan Mazdoor Morcha launches rail blockade at Mallwanwala over pending demands
Railway tracks blocked at five locations across Punjab
Ferozepur, September 17, 2026: In Ferozepur, hundreds of farmers and agricultural workers of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab staged a protest on the railway track at Mallanwala on Wednesday, as part of the organisation’s ongoing agitation over various demands.
Farmers blocked railway tracks at five locations across Punjab on Thursday, disrupting train services as they pressed the government to meet demands including a legal guarantee for minimum support prices (MSP), debt relief and the withdrawal of its land pooling policy. Farmers affiliated with the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha occupied tracks at Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Moga, Ferozepur and Sangrur.
The protest, led by district president Inderjit Singh Bath, was held under the call of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha. Addressing the gathering, farmer leaders Sukhwinder Singh Sabhra, Dharam Singh Sidhu and Sarjit Singh Fauji alleged that the Punjab Government had failed to respond to their demands despite protests and memorandums submitted earlier.
The protesters demanded a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) on five crops, permanent ownership rights for settled farmers, complete loan waiver for farmers and workers, immediate compensation for flood losses, withdrawal of the land pooling policy and an end to forcible acquisition of land.
Other demands included withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and stopping the installation of smart meters, release of pending sugarcane payments, action against drug traffickers and corruption, and employment opportunities for youth. They also demanded withdrawal of cases registered against farmers and the return of tractor-trolleys seized from the Khanauri border protest.
Kisan leader Sarwan Singh Pandher had announced that if no government representative approached the protesters for talks by noon on September 17, farmer organisations would move towards railway tracks at several places, including Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Moga and Sangrur. He said the organisations would continue their agitation until their demands were addressed.
