Amritsar, September 17, 2026 : To celebrate the 76th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a special Sikh prayer gathering was organised by members of the Sikh community from different sects including members of Sant Samaj at Gurudwara Chhevin Patshahi in Amritsar in Amritsar as part of ‘Sewa Sankalp’ initiative which is a month-long nationwide public outreach and service campaign running from September 17 to October 17, 2026 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25 years in public service. The Sikh community members offered prayers (Ardas) for the successful continuation of the Prime Minister’s leadership, his sound health and well-being and progress and prosperity of the nation.
Led by Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Satnam Singh Sandhu, the members of Sikh community paid obeisance Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar and sought blessings for the continued progress and prosperity of the country. The Jatha subsequently participated in Langar Sewa at the community kitchen and Sewa at the Joda Ghar, carrying forward the spirit of selfless service that forms an integral part of Sikh tradition. Paath and Kirtan were held during the gathering followed by Ardas. The Ardas invoked the Sikh values of ‘Chardi Kala’, signifying a spirit of optimism, strength and resilience and ‘Sarbat da Bhala’, wish for the welfare and well-being of all, with prayers for the peace, prosperity and well-being of the nation and its people.
Apart from MP Satnam Sandhu, the prominent Sikh leaders who were part of gathering included Giani Sukhdev Singh, Head Granthi Sri Dukhniwaran Sahib, Patiala, Gurdarshan Singh, former Secretary, SGPC, Jathedar Harbans Singh Manjhpur, former SGPC Member, Karm Singh, former Secretary, SGPC, Baba Major Singh Dera Shaheed Tara Singh, Amritsar and Sant Baba Hardeepak Singh Tibbe Wale, Jathedar Harbans Singh Sidhwan, Charanjit Singh, SGPC Member, Harjinder Singh, President, World Sikh Chamber, Kuldeep Singh, Damdami Taksal and Jatha Bhindran-Mehta and Baba Major Singh among others.
Later, a book titled ‘Heart-to-Heart: A Saga of Reverence’ was released by members of the Sant Samaj. The book highlights the meaningful engagement with the Sikh community under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while documenting initiatives aimed at preserving the glorious heritage of the Sikh Panth, drawing upon the universal teachings of the Guru Sahibs and recognising the community’s historic sacrifices and contributions to India’s spiritual and national journey.
The special Sikh prayer programme in Amritsar was part of BJP’s broader Sewa Sankalp initiative, through which the organisation is marking the Prime Minister’s birthday with community-oriented activities rooted in the values of service, compassion and social responsibility. The initiative brings members of minority communities together through acts of Sewa and community participation while marking the occasion in accordance with their respective faith traditions.
Prominent Sikh leaders present at the holy Sikh shrine praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unparalleled efforts over the past decade for the preservation, promotion of Sikh culture and heritage and spreading the teaching and values of Sikhism across the world.
The Sikh leaders said that PM Modi shares special bond with Sikh community and he has taken inspiration from the teachings of revered Sikh gurus to perform selfless service (Service) to the nation and its people irrespective of their caste and religion. Members of Sikh community said to facilitate convenient travel to all key Sikh pilgrimage sites, the Modi government has introduced expressways, rail lines and airports.
They also lauded the Modi government for the historic announcement of Veer Bal Diwas, honouring the remarkable martyrdom of the ‘Chaar Sahibzadas’ which was as an important step towards addressing the long-ignored aspirations of the Sikh community at both national and international levels.
Expressing their gratitude, prominent Sikh leaders said PM Modi shares a unique and special bond with the Sikh community and no other Prime Minister has understood their aspirations as he has. They said the grand celebrations of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the 400th anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and the 350th anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, organized globally under Modi's leadership, have spread the teachings of the Sikh Gurus not just in India but around the world.
Members of Sikh community said PM Modi’s mantra of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’ resonates with the Sikh philosophy of ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’, ensuring equal empowerment for all communities over the past decade. The leaders of Sikh community commended PM Modi’s strategy of integrating development with heritage preservation, encapsulated in his motto of ‘Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi’.
Praising PM Modi for taking unprecedented steps for spreading the teachings and values of Sikhism in India and abroad, the Sikh leaders said that the historic announcement of the grand international celebrations of Sikh Gurus’ birth anniversaries, the GST exemption on langar, the opening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, the designation of Sultanpur Lodhi as a heritage city, the establishment of a chair named after Guru Nanak Dev Ji at a British university and visa-free pilgrimage access to Gurudwara Sri Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, as key initiatives promoting Sikh values and welfare.
The leaders of Sikh community said the Modi government’s Citizenship Amendment Act has helped Sikhs fleeing persecution in Afghanistan and Pakistan to get Indian citizenship. They pointed out that during PM Modi’s tenure, copies of Guru Granth Sahib were brought to India from Afghanistan, with three Saroops arriving in Delhi from Kabul.
They added that the prayers of Sikh community which were lingering on for more than seven-decade were finally answered when Modi government ensured the opening of the historic Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara (in Pakistan), allowing the Sikh sangat to visit this holiest shrine, after a wait of over 70 years since Independence, shows PM Modi’s endeavours for the welfare of Sikh community.

Modi Mantra of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’ inspired from Sikh philosophy of ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’ through which he ensured equal empowerment of all communities. Prime Minister Modi has consistently demonstrated an understanding of Sikh aspirations and deep respect for the community’s significant contribution to India’s freedom struggle and nation-building.”
The MP added, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several long-standing aspirations and concerns of the Sikh community have been addressed from the opening of the historic Kartarpur Sahib Corridor and improved road, rail and air connectivity to major Sikh pilgrimage sites to the grand global commemorations of the Prakash Purabs of Sikh Gurus. The observation of Veer Bal Diwas has given national recognition to the supreme sacrifices of the Chaar Sahibzadas, while the GST exemption on langar, development of Sultanpur Lodhi as a heritage city and initiatives to spread the teachings of the Sikh Gurus across the world have further strengthened this connect.”
“The Modi government has supported persecuted Sikhs through the CAA, facilitated the return of sacred Saroops of Guru Granth Sahib from Afghanistan and removed Sikhs from blacklists restricting their travel to India. The SIT and reopening of 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases, along with compensation, have further advanced justice for affected families,” added MP Satnam Sandhu.

Respecting the Sikh sentiments, he took the historic initiative to open Kartarpur Corridor after seven decades of wait, granting Sikhs the privilege of visiting the holy shrine. To date, over 3.5 lakh pilgrims have visited the site. PM Modi has developed the 'Sikh Circuit.' He has ensured convenient and safe travel for pilgrims to the five Takhts and various Gurudwaras by enhancing rail, air, and road connectivity. While he also took the initiative for Gurdwara Hemkund Sahib Ropeway project, the reopening of Adampur Airport and the introduction of a direct flight from Adampur to Nanded Sahib have greatly eased the movement of pilgrims. PM Modi's government has also provided GST exemptions on Langar, removed names of Sikhs from the 'blacklist,' and granted FCRA registration to Sri Harmandir Sahib (Amritsar) to enable foreign donations from NRI Sikhs. Additionally, under the CAA, citizenship was granted to 5,807 persecuted Sikhs from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Thus PM Modi has done more than previous Prime Ministers to bring justice, healing and dignity to the Sikh community in past 12 years,”.
‘PM Modi's Has Launched Many Projects for Accelerating Economic Development Across Punjab with Creation of Major Economic Corridors in the State’, says World Sikh Forum Leaders
Harjinder Singh, President, World Sikh Chamber, said, “PM Modi's has shown commitment to Punjab’s development by launching projects for accelerating economic development across Punjab. It’s really pleasing that development and preservation of heritage city Amritsar is being carried out under HRIDAY scheme at a cost of Rs 69.31 Crore. High-speed trains like the Vande Bharat Express have significantly reduced our travel time for Sikh pilgrims visiting holy city of Amritsar. The Greenfield Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway has provided relief from traffic congestion, connecting major historical Gurdwaras with Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra, at an approximate cost Rs 40,000 crore. As many as 22 railway stations in Punjab including Amritsar Railway Station are being redeveloped under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ with Rs 4,762 crore, boosting regional development. 'Guru Kripa Yatra' train service launched by the Prime Minister has made visiting the five Takhts significantly easier. Direct flights from Adampur to Nanded Sahib and the Vande Bharat route have drastically reduced travel time,”.
He added, “PM Modi’s government has granted FCRA registration to Sri Harmandir Sahib (Amritsar) to enable foreign donations from NRI Sikhs. Additionally, under the CAA, citizenship was granted to 5,807 persecuted Sikhs from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Major economic corridors are being built in Punjab including the Amritsar–Jamnagar Economic Corridor which is approximately spread across1,256-kilometers. Premier institutions like IIM Amritsar and AIIMS Bathinda are offering students in Punjab the opportunity to pursue excellent management and medical education within their own region. Major infrastructure projects and logistics corridors are generating thousands of jobs in sectors such as healthcare, construction, hospitality, supply chain management, and local retail, thereby creating employment opportunities for the youth. In past 12 years, over 2,811 kilometer new national highways have been constructed in Punjab. Airport infrastructure in Punjab has improved under the Modi government, with Chandigarh’s Rs 939-crores international terminal, expansion of Adampur airport’s terminal boosting capacity to 5 lakh passengers from the existing 30,000, and Amritsar Airport expanding by 10,000 sq m to enhance handling capacity,”.

Amrit Kaur from Bibi Kaulan Ji Bhalai Kender Amritsar said, “Prime Minister Modi has taken unprecedented measures for women empowerment and placed special emphasis on girls' education. The construction of separate toilets for girls in schools has not only ensured their health and safety but has also led to a reduction in school dropout rates among girls. Furthermore, over 34,000 women in Punjab have been empowered under the 'Lakhpati Didi' scheme, enabling them to become financially independent and turn their dreams into reality,”.
Expressing their gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, another Sikh woman Paramjeet Kaur said, “PM Modi secured justice for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots after a wait of over three decades by providing compensation, he has helped heal their long-standing wounds. Additionally, the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' has empowered the women of India by reserving 33% of seats for them in the Lok Sabha and all state legislative assemblies. The Modi government approved the release of additional 75 lakh connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) from which Punjab has 13.59 lakh active LPG connections under PMUY,”.
