Asian Games 2026: PV Sindhu storms into quarter-finals with straight-game win

Nagoya (Japan), September 27, 2026: India’s PV Sindhu advanced to the women’s singles quarter-finals at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki in straight games on Saturday.
Sindhu won the round-of-16 match 21-9, 21-13 at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium to book her place in the last eight. She controlled the opening game from the outset and closed it 21-9.
Miyazaki made a stronger start to the second game and briefly put Sindhu under pressure. The Indian, however, regained control and pulled away to win the game 21-13 and complete the victory in 41 minutes.
Sindhu had earlier defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Pin-chian 21-19, 21-14 in the second round.
She will face China’s Chen Yufei in the quarter-finals on Sunday. Chen, the former Olympic champion, presents the next challenge for Sindhu in the women’s singles draw.
