Breaking: Former ED Officer Niranjan Singh resigns from Waris Punjab De days after joining

Chandigarh, September 27, 2026: Former Enforcement Directorate (ED) Deputy Director Niranjan Singh has resigned from the Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), days after joining the party led by jailed MP Amritpal Singh.
In a statement, Singh said he was distancing himself from the party due to differences over certain issues that he described as non-negotiable for him.
Singh said he had extended his support to Waris Punjab De over issues including Punjab’s drug problem, widespread corruption, gangsterism, extortion and alleged involvement of police personnel in drug trafficking.
“However, I have differences on certain issues which are non-negotiable for me,” Singh said in his statement. He further said that people in public life should conduct themselves in accordance with the Constitution of India.
“I wish them well,” Singh said while announcing his decision to dissociate himself from the party.
Singh had joined Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) on September 23 along with former Punjab Police DSP Balwinder Singh Sekhon. His induction had come ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
