Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma joins ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ ; calls for strong action against drug trafficking
Ferozepur, September 27: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who joined the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ being undertaken by the Punjab BJP, on Saturday called for coordinated efforts to make Punjab drug-free. He paid obeisance at Gurdwara Jamni Sahib and paid tributes to the Saragarhi martyrs at the memorial in Mamdot.
Sharma said he had come to Punjab with the message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a drug-free India. He said the fight against drugs should focus not only on users but also on identifying sources, breaking the trafficking supply chain, exposing drug traffickers and their key operators, besides ensuring treatment and rehabilitation of victims.
Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party government, Sharma questioned its pre-election promise to eradicate drugs within three months. He said announcements alone could not address the problem and called for effective action and accountability.
He said protecting Punjab’s youth from drugs was essential for achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047. He appealed to people to join the campaign and spread the message of a drug-free Punjab across villages and households.
Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu said the drug menace posed a serious threat to Punjab’s younger generation and stressed action against traffickers, financiers and the entire supply network.
Punjab BJP Vice-President and Yatra Coordinator Ravikaran Singh Kahlon said making Punjab drug-free was a collective responsibility and called for sustained action against the menace. Vijay Sharma, Suraj Bhadwaj, Sarabjit Singh Bobby Bath, Surinder Singh and Manjit Singh Rai also addressed the gathering.
