Chandigarh, October 4, 2026: A social media post by Rhythmjit Singh, son of former Punjab Chief Minister and Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi, has drawn political attention in Punjab, with the reference to “Gudda-Guddi” being linked to an earlier remark by former Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel.
Rhythmjit Singh shared a video on social media highlighting the work and decisions of the 111-day Charanjit Singh Channi-led Congress government in Punjab. The video features a song and references the government’s initiatives during its brief tenure.
The post comes days after a significant change in the Punjab Congress leadership. Amarinder Singh Raja Warring resigned as Punjab Congress president, following which Pargat Singh was appointed to the post. Recent reports have linked the leadership change to the prolonged differences between the Warring and Channi camps.
The “Gudda-Guddi” reference has also revived attention to a remark made by Bhupesh Baghel in July, when he was the Congress in-charge for Punjab. Amid speculation over a possible change in the state party leadership, Baghel had said that such a decision was not a “game of puppets or dolls”, stressing that the leadership issue would be considered after consultations.
The remark subsequently became part of the political exchanges surrounding the Congress’s internal differences in Punjab.
Rhythmjit Singh’s latest post is being interpreted by political observers in the context of those developments. However, the post itself highlights the achievements claimed by the Channi government during its 111-day tenure rather than explicitly naming any political leader in its message.
The Channi government, which took office in September 2021, had announced several measures during its brief tenure, including changes relating to domestic power tariffs and other welfare-oriented decisions. Channi has continued to refer to the record of his 111-day government in his political messaging.
