Amritsar (Punjab), October 7, 2026: An Amritsar court has allowed Khadoor Sahib Independent MP Amritpal Singh, who is lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail, to speak to his ailing 82-year-old grandmother through a video call.
The permission was granted in connection with FIR No. 39 registered at Ajnala police station.
Amritpal Singh’s counsel, Manjit Singh Chhina, had moved an application seeking interim bail so that he could meet his ailing grandmother. During the hearing, the court was informed that she was admitted to Sri Guru Ram Das Charitable Hospital when the application was filed but has since returned home.
Following this, the defence sought permission for Amritpal Singh to speak to his grandmother through a video call. The prosecution, represented by advocate Gurinderbir Singh, did not oppose the request.
Considering the grandmother’s advanced age and health condition, Additional Sessions Judge Parinder Singh directed that Amritpal Singh be allowed to have one video call of up to 10 minutes within five days. Current reports also confirm that the court order allows the call once during these five days.
The court has imposed a condition that no family member or private individual will be permitted to photograph or record the video call.
Amritpal Singh was elected to the Lok Sabha from Khadoor Sahib as an Independent candidate in 2024. He remains lodged in Dibrugarh Jail and has been appearing before Punjab courts through video conferencing in cases including the Ajnala violence case.
