Ferozepur launches 30-Day ‘Garbage-Free Festival 2026’ drive ahead of Diwali
Ferozepur, October 23, 2026: In a major cleanliness push ahead of the festive season, the Ferozepur Municipal Council has launched a special 30-day ‘Garbage-Free Festival 2026’ campaign to ensure clean roads, garbage-free markets and a healthy environment for residents during Diwali and other festivals.
The campaign will run from October 23 to November 23 under the directions of MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar, Municipal Council President Ashok Sachdeva, Deputy Commissioner Deepashikha Sharma and ADC Dr Amandeep Kaur. Municipal Council officials said the campaign would focus on five key areas, including public awareness, intensive sanitation, waste collection and recycling, community participation and recognition of contributors.
As part of the first phase, special teams will conduct door-to-door awareness drives and encourage residents to keep their surroundings clean and avoid plastic carry bags. People will be encouraged to use jute and cloth bags, while notices and challans will be issued to shops found selling plastic carry bags.
In the second phase, three dedicated sanitation teams, each comprising 10 sanitation workers and a supervisor, along with tractor-trolleys, loaders and JCB machines, will clean two residential and one commercial ward every day. Garbage vulnerable points across the city will also be cleared.
A special sanitation van and a movable recovery van will collect recyclable material from residential and commercial areas and transport it to the RRR Centre for recycling. The Municipal Council will also involve schools, colleges, NCC and NSS volunteers, social and religious organisations and other residents through rallies, street plays and awareness activities.
Deputy Commissioner Deepashikha Sharma appealed to residents to actively participate in the campaign and help make Ferozepur a cleaner city during the festive season. ADC Dr Amandeep Kaur urged residents to join the initiative and said they could contact the Municipal Council at 9465250208, 8728940320 or 7814666874.
The campaign will conclude with an award ceremony to honour individuals and employees who make significant contributions to the cleanliness drive.
