Teachers: The Pillars of India's Future and the Architects of Viksit Bharat....by Satnam Singh Sandhu
Chandigarh: Education is not only the foundation upon which our civilization has been built, but it is also the architect of humanity's future. No surprise, teachers are seen as equivalent to God in Indian culture.
In fact, the respect and veneration a Guru, a Sanskrit word that connotes ‘a source of illumination’, receives in our culture is well depicted in the lines “Gurur Brahmaa, Gurur Vishnuh, Gurur Devo Maheshwarah Guru Saakshaat Parabrahma Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah (Guru is like Brahma the Creator initiating us into learning, Vishnu the Preserver nurturing our talents and Maheshwara the Destroyer dispelling doubts and negative thoughts. Guru is the Supreme God and my salutation to such a Guru).
On this Teachers’ Day, as we pay tributes to the great Dr S Radhakrishnan, former President of India who was illustrious teacher and mentor himself, we pay our respect and regards to the entire teaching fraternity, which plays a pivotal role in building the future of the nation by nurturing young minds.
Teachers has been conferred as the role Nation-Builders in NEP 2020
Education is not only the foundation upon which our civilization has been built, but it is also the architect of humanity's future. So as the world is moving from information era to knowledge era, the 21st century will be shaped by societies that accord topmost importance to education, research, and innovation. This makes the role of our teachers extremely vital.
This importance of teachers as nation-builders has also been clearly stated in the comprehensive National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which aims to revolutionize the educational sector in India and lay the path for the next 25 years as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Teachers played a major role in the formulation of this Policy which has set an ambitious objective of establishing India as a global knowledge super-power and they have a monumental role to play in its
