Supreme Court’s Historic Verdict on Religious Conversion Reinforces Social Justice and Protects India’s Civilizational Balance: Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan
Ludhiana, 24 March 2026: National BJP leader Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan has strongly welcomed and wholeheartedly appreciated the historic and courageous verdict delivered by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on matters relating to religious conversion, describing it as a landmark step towards safeguarding social justice, constitutional integrity and India’s rich civilizational heritage.
Expressing his views on his social media platform X, Grewal said that the decision of the Supreme Court is not merely a judicial pronouncement but a powerful constitutional message that reaffirms the commitment of the country’s highest court towards protecting the rights of genuine beneficiaries while preserving the delicate social and cultural balance of the nation.
Grewal said that the issue of religious conversion has for long been emerging as a serious and sensitive challenge in several parts of the country. He stated that numerous disturbing instances have surfaced where individuals who had already converted to other religions allegedly continued to claim constitutional benefits meant specifically for Scheduled Castes by concealing their altered religious identity. Such practices, he said, have deprived genuinely deserving and economically weaker citizens of their rightful entitlements guaranteed under the Constitution.
Grewal said that the Supreme Court’s timely and decisive intervention has brought much-needed clarity, transparency and fairness to the system. He stated that the judgment will ensure that constitutional safeguards and reservation benefits intended for marginalized communities reach the rightful and deserving beneficiaries instead of being misused through deception or manipulation of identity.
He further stated that forced or induced religious conversion through monetary temptation, coercion or unlawful means represents a grave threat to the social fabric of the nation. Grewal emphasized that the ancient and deeply rooted civilizational traditions of the Hindu and Sikh communities embody centuries of spiritual wisdom, cultural heritage and moral values that have shaped India’s identity. Any attempt to weaken or dismantle these traditions through unethical or manipulative practices, he said, ultimately endangers not only cultural continuity but also the broader principles of social harmony and humanity.
Grewal asserted that the Supreme Court’s verdict sends an unmistakably clear message that fraud, deception or concealment of identity for the purpose of unlawfully obtaining government benefits will not be tolerated in a democratic system governed by the rule of law.
He also urged the government to ensure that religious identity is transparently and accurately recorded in official documents wherever necessary so that any possibility of misuse of constitutional provisions is effectively eliminated. At the same time, he called for stringent legal action against individuals, organizations or agents who allegedly exploit poverty and vulnerability by luring economically weaker sections into religious conversion through inducements, false promises or other unlawful methods.
Grewal further said that the historic judgment of the Supreme Court will significantly strengthen the credibility of India’s constitutional framework while protecting the rights and dignity of the poorest and most marginalized sections of society. According to him, the verdict will also play an important role in restoring public confidence in the principles of fairness, accountability and social justice.
Grewal expressed profound respect and gratitude towards the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for delivering what he described as a bold, balanced and visionary judgment. He said that the nation feels reassured when the country’s highest judicial institution rises above all pressures and steadfastly upholds the timeless principles of truth, justice and constitutional morality for every citizen of India.
