Barnala: FIR, Rs 5,000 fine imposed on farmer for stubble burning

Barnala (Punjab), April 29, 2026: The district administration has taken strict action against stubble burning, with an FIR registered and a fine imposed on a farmer in Barnala.
Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Singh said a case was lodged against Avtar Singh, a resident of village Pandher, for burning wheat stubble on one acre of land. Acting under the directions of the Commission for Air Quality Management, Barnala Police registered an FIR and imposed an environmental compensation fine of ₹5,000 under the Air Quality Management Rules, 2023.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that a complete ban on stubble burning is in force across the district and warned that violations will invite strict legal action.
To curb such incidents, the administration has deployed a monitoring system comprising 40 clusters, assistant clusters, and 254 nodal officers, who are maintaining a close vigil on fields.
He emphasised that despite repeated awareness efforts, strict enforcement will continue against those found violating the ban.
