BJP Leader Takes Sharp Dig at BJP’s ‘Drug-Free Punjab Yatra’ — “Do Not Turn the Drug Crisis into a Political Spectacle”: Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan
Chandigarh, September 17, 2026: Senior BJP national leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan has raised sharp questions with Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah and BJP National President Shri Nitin Nabin over the Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra being launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party from September 18.
Grewal said, “Amit Shah Ji, do not turn Punjab’s drug crisis into a political spectacle. Take action, order an investigation & answer Punjab.”
Questioning Amit Shah through social media, Grewal asked that if the area extending up to 50 kilometres from the international border falls under the jurisdiction of central security forces, then who is responsible for drugs allegedly entering Punjab from across the border? He said that earlier there were reports of drugs being brought in through drones at night, while allegations are now also being made about drugs entering during the daytime. “Then what is the Ministry of Home Affairs doing?” he questioned.
He said, “Taking out yatras is the work of the opposition; taking action is the responsibility of the government.”
Grewal said that a report of Justice Ajit Singh Bains and an FIR relating to the alleged ₹6,000-crore drug case are before the Punjab & Haryana High Court. He questioned why action has not been taken in these matters.
Naming Parminder Singh Brar and Boni Ajnala, Grewal alleged that their names are mentioned on page 11 of the report. He questioned how, if such allegations and reports exist, they were given responsibilities in the BJP along with Y-Plus security. He also referred to their close association with Delhi leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
Grewal said, “Will the wounds of those mothers whose children have fallen victim to drugs be reopened by putting such leaders on the stage?”
He recalled that in 2015, he himself had organised a march against drugs in which more than 1,000 vehicles participated. He said that at that time the BJP did not recognise that march as its own. “What is so special about the present yatra?” he asked.
Grewal further said that three out of four SIT reports constituted pursuant to the directions of the High Court have become public. He said the people of Punjab understand the entire issue and now want concrete action, not merely yatras.
Grewal demanded that before coming to Punjab, the concerned matters should be thoroughly investigated from Delhi itself and that action under law should be taken against all those found responsible.
