Food Safety Wing intensifies checks; Rs 1.50 lakh fine recovered, 140-Kg cheese declared unsafe
Ferozepur, September 23, 2026: The Food Safety Wing, has intensified its inspection and sampling drive across the district, conducting checks at various places and taking legal action wherever violations were found.
At the vegetable market on Rakhri Road near Shivala Temple, an early-morning inspection on September 22 resulted in collection of four samples — papaya, bananas, chaap and frozen chickpeas. Around 30 kg of rotten and substandard papaya, unfit for human consumption, was found and separated for disposal as per rules. Traders without Food Safety registration were directed to obtain the required licence/registration.
In a separate departmental action, a pending fine of Rs 1.50 lakh was recovered from NFC Fast Food, Ferozepur City, on September 22 following continued departmental follow-up.
Meanwhile, a Food Analyst's report has declared a sample of paneer collected during an earlier inspection at Makhu as 'UNSAFE'. Approximately 140 kg of suspected cheese - paneer had been sealed and kept at Makhu pending the laboratory report, preventing its sale or use. The official sample has now been found unsafe for human consumption.
The department said that further legal action would be taken as per the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and applicable rules wherever violations are established. It also appealed to consumers to purchase food items only from licensed/registered food business operators and report suspected unsafe or substandard food to the Food Safety Department.
